The Alchemy of Transformation:
Encaustic, Fabric, Stains & Paint with Natural Processes & Materials

A CREATIVE PARTNERSHIP WITH LORRAINE GLESSNER & BRENDA HOWELL, TEACHING ASSISTANT

Experience is never limited and it is never complete; it is an immense sensibility, a kind of huge spiderweb of the finest silken threads suspended in the chamber of consciousness and catching every airborne particle in its tissue.

— Henry James

JUNE 24-28, 2024 AT LAREAU INN & FARM, WAITSFIELD, VERMONT

Limited to 10 participants

Ready to transform the mundane into the extraordinary and challenge convention? Using raw, disparate materials while drawing on the fertile land of Vermont, participants explore creating patterns on fabric or paper with the ephemeral beauty of, Shibori (Japanese tie-dye), rust, indigo, and flowers and botanicals. Participants will also experiment with several ways to scorch and brand wood or paper, embed carbon and soils and paint with tar, further capturing the essence of decay, alchemy and transformation of the earth. Utilizing the printed fabrics and papers as grounds, participants are encouraged to expand on their ideas with mark-making and collage. These unconventional techniques and materials add a touch of rawness and unpredictability to the work, echoing the ever-changing nature of the Vermont landscape.

**Please note that participants should be prepared to spend time outside as well as in the studio. Any participant unable to take part in the outdoor activities are welcome to opt out and alternative indoor creative exercises will be provided.
